Life as we know it..

Yes, been working hard. No time for frivolous bloggin'.
:-)
Caught a tummy bug night before last, very very icky, no fun at all!
Today I started the dreaded curse, so my body is attacking me from all sides now.
I have to work a little this weekend each day, so next Friday we will have all shown up at this place for 19 days in a row.. sheesh.
This Sat. is our last IMPACT fostering class! Hopefully, we will be able to meet the children they want us to take, as the caseworker invited them to come to the luncheon.
Please pray for these 3 little kids, that they get to stay together, and be happy.. wherever they end up.
We have a sort of hopscotch schedule with all of the finalizations. Here is a small sample:
11/4 - Fingerprints/background checks in Dalton (morning)
11/4 - Environmental Inspection by Catoosa health Dept.
11/8 - CPR / First Aid Certification class
11/11 - First Home Study
11/18 - Second Home Study
11/21 - Case Submitted and Certified

A truly busy November! And this weekend will be especially hectic as we are moving everything around and making our home ready for the inspections and looking like a home should with 3 kids.

Last weekend Matthew's parents came and helped us think about organizational techniques and built a wrap-around book shelf on the top of our bedroom, and now that it has filled up it looks so neat! We moved the computer desk and the computer to the bedroom, and it is up and running. Now we have to split the bunkbeds and the 3rd room will officially be a boy room.

Matthew is still really liking his job at Alexian Brothers on the mountain, and I am glad.

Buying the presidency, Obama style

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/10/obama-money.html

With $605 million already, Obama asks only $10 more from each of us
Having hauled in a record $208,333 every hour of every day last month -- $150 million in all -- plus a few more unreported millions so far this month, Barack Obama is worried that he might come up short in the political money war with the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket.

Just to relieve himself of that $150 million before the polls open, Obama will have to spend $12.5 million a day.

But he needs some more.

And, according to an e-mail plea to supporters, tonight's the absolute deadline to donate $10 more and receive your special edition Official Obama-Biden car magnet.

Having now collected more than $605 million altogether, the freshman senator shows no concern over the appearance of buying the presidency. Imagine for a moment the national political conversation that could be going on now if rich Republicans had raked in that much loot for one campaign.

Obama's team is so well-funded and well-organized it has spread its political web into one-time red states, forcing McCain to defend them with his measly $84.1 million in federal funds.

Obama aides privately profess profound concern that additional financial resources from the Republican National Committee could make the GOP ticket competitive in the closing days. And the Cincinatti Bengals are a real Super Bowl threat this year.

"The race is deadlocked in a number of crucial battleground states," the urgent e-mail proclaims, "including Ohio, Missouri and Indiana. And we're neck-and-neck in Florida, North Carolina and Nevada.

"We have to make our final, tough decisions about where to fight and how strong we can make our team. And those choices will depend on the financial resources we have."

And, hey, if there's a few hundred million dollars left over in the campaign coffers on Nov. 5, win or lose, maybe Obama would like to put it toward the immense federal budget deficits that our colleague Stephen Braun warns this morning will confront the hopes and current plans of either an Obama or McCain White House come Jan. 21.

Laughing at Life

Well, last night Matthew came and picked me up from work since the lady I carpool with went home before I was ready to leave.
We ended up at LJS/A&W for dinner, amusing ourselves as to how much our life will change once we get foster children in a few weeks.
How odd will it be to pick children up from day care or after school care, and do all the basics (feed, wash, clothe).
We are blessed with Matthew's new job we are on the exact same schedule, so at least there will not be huge gaps where one of us will have to do it all.

I really am excited.

Pulling it together

Lots to do this week, finishing all of the paperwork accumulation, rabies shots, marriage license, etc.etc. 50 more little things to do.
Oh, and work is crazzzzy, too. 12 hours today. Can't get a lot done when you are behind a desk for 12 hours.. but we need the money.

My Saturday

Well, actually Friday & Saturday.
Last night Matthew and I stayed in, ate a lovely dinner, played with the animals, etc. He watched a James Bond movie and I began a new book.
This morning we got up early, grabbed the paperwork and brownies and off we set out for the DFCS Foster class. Today was especially rough, because we spent nearly 8 hours going over the different signs of abuse, and focused heavily on sexually abused children. There was a lot of bonding with our class this second week, and I am so blessed to be getting to know everyone!
In fact, they were already grilling us today about a few prospective foster kids they want to place with us ASAP due to our location and elementary school zone. YaY.
We came home and picked up the truck, changing clothes and getting on the road again. We stopped by and got to see Niki and give her the reference packet for our paperwork, and got to see both her and her hubby, and those two lovely doggies! :-)
We drove up to Sale Creek and got to spend a few minutes with my Mom, Dad, and Nephew, and also drop off two more reference packets for family friends. We loaded up the truck with a twin bed for the boy room, and a dresser that was my grandmother's that is absolutely perfect in the girl's room. (too tired for pics tonight)

Accumulations

We completed the drug screenings this week, and I finished the genogram, which was difficult.
Tomorrow we have our second class and we are all bringing food in. We signed up for brownies, cups, and ice.

Matthew and I spent the evening last night folding the massive pile of laundry that had taken over the dresser and spilled over onto the floor. We cleaned and put away and now our bedroom is clean and tidy again! All of that will change once Sunday rolls around because we are fixing the bed and doing bookshelves in that room.

Hopefully today or tomorrow sometime I will get to see Niki, who I am hoping is doing a reference for us for the foster paperwork!

Monday's Office Visit

It's definitely NOT easy to see you parents be in pain. NOT AT ALL.
At least she was having a good time with it, after the initial shock of seeing her wrist without the cast on it.
**Hugges and Kisses**

Late Start

I did not want to get up this morning. In fact, I stayed in bed an extra 15 minutes.

It is my sister's birthday! Happy 32 to her!

I will post more tonight, including some pics from Monday, but last night Matthew and I unpacked all of the boxes from the library/computer room. We tried to toss a few things, donate a few things to charity, and get everything ready to be moved into the bedroom this weekend. Mom is giving me a nice wooden twin bed frame that I used to have as a kid, so now Matthew needs to go get it, set it up, and we will need to buy a mattress set for it for the boy room.
I tried as best as I could to condense down the girl room, and get all of the holiday boxes and luggage in a corner and prepare for moving to an "as yet unknown" storage location. :-)
We measured the dresser in our bedroom and it will fit perfectly in the girl room!

Emotionally Taxing Weekend

Friday after work I went to St. Jude's and did a little over half an hour of adoration, in thanks for Matthew getting his job! I was going anyway to pray for those intentions, so when I got the call on the way telling me he had gotten the job, it became a great time of thanksgiving!
After praying, I met Matthew at his parent's house and he was busy helping them move some tings around, and we enjoyed a great dinner there with them. Yummy!
Saturday we woke up early, had a bowl of cereal each, and headed off to the Foster classes. It was so much fun! There were six couples and a single lady. We spent from 9 a.m. til 4 p.m. getting to know each other, enjoying some really great food, and learning the first steps to welcoming children into our home.
The class was excellent and we cannot wait to go again next Saturday. Matthew has already decided to generously give up the computer room, which he himself picked the colors for and planned out. He wants that to be a boys' bedroom, and with the colors he picked out, it will be fantastic! We just have to shuffle all of the computer stuff and desk into our bedroom, and put up a bookshelf across the top or the room and we will have successfully merged the computer/library into the bedroom! This will leave the 2nd bedroom with bunkbeds and trundle, and now the 3rd bedroom for either a twin or bunkbeds for any boys we get. It was a good idea, and we are excited to be getting the house into "child mode".
After the classes we came home for a bit and then left to go to Reconciliation and Mass. Our regular priest is still in Ireland, so we had another visiting priest, one which unfortunately forgot about the 4:30 Reconciliation! :-) So, we were very early for the 5:30 Mass, and had a lot of extra time in the church to devote to prayer, which is always good.
Sunday morning we went to our family friend, Dodie's, funeral. It was very sad because she was so young and had left so many loved ones behind. She will be greatly missed.
After meeting my Dad, Sister, and Nephew there, we all went our separate ways and Matthew and I spent the day with his parents doing various errands. Matthew, finally, got his oil changed after me continuously nagging him about it. Yay.
This evening we are at home, did a few more pages of paperwork for the DFCS and tried to relax in preparation of a busy week ahead!
Monday Matthew takes his drug screening for the new job, and I have to take my Mom to the Dr. to get her post-surgery hard cast put on.

Interview with Palin

Answered Prayers!

Big, heartfelt thanks to all of my family, friends, and co-workers for joining forces today to pray for Matthew's employment!

He got the job! Praise the LORD.

Check out his new employer!

Please pray for Matthew

He has an interview today with a company that I believe would be great for him to work for, both emotionally and spiritually!

Stem cells from testicles an option to embryos

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5igrPfiZzZSGqmmpi5a_imgJXPYoAD93MEFVO0

It's amazing how new ways are discovered all of the time to do the same processes without becoming morally wrong.
Why, only a few years ago the media and the science articles went on and on and on about how only embryonic stem cells could have these benefits. Way to go, science!

geez.

Changing Lives

Our lives are changing, that is for certain.
This morning the system was down and we all spent two hours and forty five minutes staring at our desktops, doing what we could, and being helpless. How did people do business without computers/servers/internet?
We had planned on spending tomorrow in Knoxville, supporting the 40 days for Life program. Unfortunately, it is imperative that I not miss work, since I am the only income at the moment.
We are so sad because of our family friend's passing, and know that this weekend will be finding out the arrangements.
Saturday we begin our foster parent classes, we are so nervous and excited! We filled out a chunk of the paperwork last night and it is very daunting. The funny side is that the forms call Matthew the "father" and I the "mother"... at first we were curious as to why they would care about the employment info. of our parents, until we figured out they were referring to US!
It will definitely be a change to our frame of reference.

In Mourning

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.

Unfortunately my family friend did not make it. Please pray for her family.

The Crunching Still Goin' On

Well, Matthew finally broke down and applied for unemployment yesterday. After being out of work for five weeks we had to concede that he just wasn't getting any job offers. Of course, we are still looking, but the handful of interviews he went on didn't call back, and the listings online and in the newspaper are dwindling. Companies just aren't hiring.
I am just hoping that we are able to keep the big things: House and Cars. I have (by the Grace of God) been able to pay the utilities on time, but the rest of our bills are either very late, or getting paid a small amount at a time.
And here I thought we were finally back on our feet after his lay-off in May.
I haven't been too grumbly on the blog.. but there is my update.

Adorable!

Yesterday I read several reports that have come out saying how children need fans in their nurseries to prevent SIDS. I understand the concept, because look at the C-Pap machines nowadays.. the air makes you remember to breathe fully.
Anyway, today I found this similar article, but the photo was so cute!!!

Not sure why this priest has a fascination with Zombies.. but I like it!

Pro Life prayer chain coverage

Matthew and I taped the news last night, I guess we will watch it today. I know that 3 and 9 were there.
Here is a story that was e-mailed to me today from the wrcb site:
http://www.wrcbtv.com/global/story.asp?s=9127060

The lady quoted in the article, Peggy English, was the speaker who I had my picture taken with (in yesterday's blog).

Respect Life Sunday prayer chain @ OLPH 2008

The day was wonderful, a bit warm for October, but it was also hot last year when we did this downtown.. why didn't I learn?
The speaker was from www.silentnomoreawareness.org, and the prayer chain was huge, spanning both South Terrace and Moore Rd. near the Church. We stood on the South Terrace part, and we had a great response!
Just now I realized that I didn't get any pics of Matthew! Ugh.. well, I promise he was there!

Already a great and wonderful Sunday morning

Mass this morning was good, the last week that the visiting priest will be officiating. I am so glad we had him, he was excellent.
Today is Respect Life Sunday!
I will have pics tonight of our prayer chain at OLPH.

Please keep this issue in your prayers.

Praise the Lord

I just heard this morning that our family friend is having brain activity and starting to come out of the coma yesterday! I am sure there are still dangers and loads of hurdles, but to go from no brain activity (thinking we had lost her for good), this is surely an answer to our prayers.

Democrats quickly becoming "party of death"

http://blogs.reuters.com/faithworld/2008/10/01/vatican-official-attacks-us-democrats-as-party-of-death/

Vatican officials seldom single out political leaders who differ with the Church on issues like abortion rights or embryonic stem cell research. But now that the Vatican’s highest court is led by an American, the former St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke, we can expect things to get more explicit in Vatican City — at least when when it comes to U.S. politics.

Burke, who was named prefect of the Vatican’s Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature in June, told the Italian Catholic newspaper Avvenire that the U.S. Democratic Party risked “transforming itself definitively into a party of death for its decisions on bioethical issues.” He then attacked two of the party’s most high profile Catholics — vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — for misrepresenting Church teaching on abortion.

Gianna Jesson & Saint Gianna

BornAliveTruth.org

I just came across the story of Gianna Jesson. I have rallied people about this issue, but never knew there was a real "miracle" from the evil that is abortion.
I love the name Gianna, and often think that if I would ever be graced with a daughter, this is the name I would most certainly give her, honoring St. Gianna and her own sacrifice for the Right to Life.

http://www.saintgianna.org/main.htm
Lord of life, we thank You for the heroic witness of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla. You have taught us that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for others. Saint Gianna did this, not only as she gave birth to her last child, but also in her everyday life as she died to herself so that she could live wholly for You. What selflessness we see in her! Help us, we pray, that through the intercession of Saint Gianna, our society may regain a sense of the sacredness of all human life. Fill us with her spirit of courage to suffer any struggle rather than deny You and the sanctity of human life. We ask You this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

(Composed by a priest from Alabama and offered to the Society of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla)

The Mom with No Arms

We are back home, both of us went up to Sale Creek Friday after work and took care of Mom. It was fun, and we got to have a ton of laughs. Poor Momma.
Saturday Morning we were up and Matthew learned how to make "Our" type of gravy and had a huge, wonderful breakfast.

**Dad put Velcro on the back of the phone, and "Garfield" plush toy helps her use it! She just has to have us turn the phone on and off, or course!

Mom was upset not being at the game Friday night, but she got over it :-)

Bill Maher takes on religion for laughs

Thanks to Maria, for bringing this heresy to my inbox.. LOL.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/10/01/film.religulous.ap/index.html

I am not sure if I can stay up for the debate tonight. It was all I could do to stay up until 9 p.m. to watch Pushing Daisies last night.
Last time I stayed up for the debate I ended up in the ER with my Mom.

Please pray for my Mom, who has surgery on her broken wrist tomorrow, and for our good family friend Dodie, who is in a coma and isn't doing as well as expected.

Awesome.. and I know a few perfect for the job!

http://ironiccatholic.blogspot.com/2008/09/local-church-begs-complainers-to-become.html
Knoxville, TN: Our Lady of the Sorrowful Heart Parish in Oak Ridge has a unique approach to vocations.

Life, right now

Well, Matthew still has not found employment, which means we are on a fast-sinking ship, but still praying.
Mom has to have surgery on Friday to put a plate in her wrist where it is broken, and her elbow is in a long-term cast now.
I will probably spend the weekend up there, and then Sunday is Respect Life Sunday and I will go to the silent prayer chain at OLPH.

Whew.. I need a nap.

Why I'm not voting Obama

I had a dream last night that I was telling Obama (on his campaign bus) exactly why I wouldn't vote for him.

Here are three distinctive articles that I found very informative.

Obama vs. The Right to Life
Thoughts on “Roman Catholics for Obama ’08”
Infanticide is becoming a touchy subject for Barack Obama

The Born Alive Infant Protection Act was first introduced in the Illinois legislature in 2001 after nurse Jill Stanek revealed that babies born alive in Christ Hospital in botched abortion procedures were left to die, unattended by medical personnel.
That same year Stanek testified before the Judiciary Committee, where Obama asked whether the bill would subvert a woman's right to abortion. Obama voted against the bill in committee but "present" on the Senate floor.
When the bill was reintroduced in 2002, Obama again voted against it in committee and was the only state senator to speak against it on the Senate floor. Again the bill was defeated with Obama voting "no" and leading the opposition.
Here is what he said:
Whenever we define a pre-viable fetus as a person that is protected by the Equal Protection Clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a -- a child, a 9-month old -- child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it -- it would essentially bar abortions, because the Equal Protection Clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an anti-abortion statute
.
