Blogging blues

I read blogs, a lot of them. And many times bloggers go long stretches without writing.. and I feel that this is my time. Life has been brutally hectic, and gearing up for the vacation has been ceaseless. I haven't had much to say, and next time I post will be with vacation pics. Work has actually been less stressful than most months, as we are gearing down for inventory.
We leave Friday night, and at this point I am so ready to get out of town I would spend a week anywhere. Things have been running together, and these last few months have been a string of frustrations and anxiety. I am more than ready for a little escapism. In fact, just today I have developed a fever blister/ cold sore/ all around nasty mutation on the inside of my nostril.. stress related, no doubt!
I have bought 85% of the Christmas gifts before our trip, and that was important to me. I gave my Mom her art print early, so she could get it framed. I got my sister something cool (can not divulge as she might read this), Matthew a leather jacket (also received early!), my Dad a 100 pack of blank DVRs (his request), a neat gift for my office recipient (we draw names), and my nephew some books (especially a kid's cookbook!) and RC Stunt car. I have Matthew's parents' gifts well on the way to being finished, with a few loose ends to tie on Vacation. (also not divulging for fear of ruining the surprise!)
I can't wait to show off some vacation pictures! Until Mid-December!!!

No lifeguard on duty

Well, it is an end to an era. The water bed has come down and found a new home at my co-worker's house. I am so glad! Although it was my very first water bed, and ever so warm to sleep on.. it made my back ache like no tomorrow. It is only now that we are sleeping on something different that I realize I don't have to wake up and "work out the kinks" for 20 minutes before I am normal.
I bought a 4'' Serta Memory Foam Mattress Topper from Overstock (gee, I love them). It is on the floor expanding as we speak. Fortunately I kinda like our pull-out couch and we have been sleeping there until after the Disney vacation in December. Then I will start seriously shopping. We have decided to get a platform, because there is no way to justify spending $$ on box springs (which aren't even box springs anymore!) when you can have a perfectly cute, modern platform bed.
There are some I like at Overstock, and at Ikea.
This weekend Mom and my Nephew are going to the Ga. vs. Ga. Tech football game. Needing a ride, Michael and I will be going along and dropping them off, then going to the mall to walk around.. maybe I can get him to the Ikea so I can see the bed up close! Poor Matthew is on call at his job this weekend and it stinks that he cannot go.. but I am going to be taking pictures of what I find.
Work this week has been a breeze. I am almost through and ready for my 4 day Holiday weekend!
We are still in financing limbo with the house. Pray for us!
Only one more full week until the trip, and I am getting really excited to be leaving my routines and getting some fresh, Florida air!
Do you like the picture? It is by my new favorite artist, John Millais, and I cannot wait to get some prints ordered! The one above is called, Christ in the House of His Parents, and this is what Wikipedia says about it:
The painting depicts the young Jesus assisting his father Joseph in his workshop. Joseph is making a door, which is laid on his carpentry work-table. Jesus has cut his hand on an exposed nail, leading to a sign of the stigmata, prefiguring the crucifixion. As Saint Anne removes the nail with a pair of pincers, his concerned mother Mary offers her cheek for a kiss while Joseph examines his wounded hand. The young John the Baptist brings in water to wash the wound, prefiguring his later baptism of Christ. An assistant of Joseph's, representing potential future Apostles watches these events. In the background various objects are used to further point up the theological significance of the subject. A ladder, referring to Jacob's ladder is visible leaning against the back wall; a dove standing for the Holy spirit rests on it. Other carpentry implements refer to the holy trinity. Millais probably used Albrecht Dürer's print Melancholia I as a source for this imagery, along with quatrocento works. The sheep in the fold in the background represent the future Christian flock

Across *my* Universe

So, I've heard about this movie for a few months,Across the Universe and I thought it seemed really awesome, kinda Moulin-Rouge-esque.
I bought the soundtrack from Overstock.com (thru ebates!) and it is so great! All Beatles music, re-done and re-thought by some really interesting voices. I got the deluxe edition, and here is the synopsis of the movie and soundtrack info. WooHoo!
A love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n' roll, moving from the dockyards of Liverpool to the creative psychedelia of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam. The star-crossed lovers, Jude and Lucy, along with a small group of friends and musicians, are swept up into the emerging anti-war and counterculture movements, with Dr. Robert and Mr. Kite as their guides. Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Jude and Lucy--against all odds--to find their own way back to each other.

Going to be saving money these next two weeks and paying bills in time for our vacation to Disney World.

New things. Same ulcers.

Today we need extra prayers and guidance. We have found the most adorable house, and will be making monumental decisions today after work. I hope everything works out so we can have something nice.

Squared - Away, the E-bate Way

Well, Friday is 3 weeks until our vacation! I have gotten all the bills in order and things payed off (or down enough! haha) I ordered my Nephew's Birthday presents today, fearing how awful it would be if we overspent in Orlando and I had to not give what I wanted!
I bought through Overstock.com, but I went to E-Bates first, signed in (my first purchase thru them!) And viola! I earned 10 bucks just from purchasing what I was gonna get any old way!
I love free money! WooHoo.

Meow!

Wow, almost a week without posting.. that is how hectic my life had become! Today is a slow day and I am looking forward to going home and doing a few small things... but that is it!
This weekend my Sister and I went "Yard-Salin'". We had a good time and I found a lot of things. Matthew stayed home and made a wonderful meal for us to keep for Sunday Lunch/Dinner.
Sunday Michael came up, my Mom, and my Sister and we chowed down on the great meal and played "Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?" board game. Matthew beat us all at it and it was nice to play a game with so many people!
We had an "open house", meaning all the felines were allowed to roam indoors and outdoors. Most of the cats were happy about the open door policy and not having to beg to get back in or back out.
Of course, Wader, the three-legged fatty stayed on the porch and enjoyed her only outside day we have granted her. When it got late though, she was nowhere. Michael and Matthew looked everywhere!
Monday at work I was miserable thinking something had happened to her, but when we got home last night I stood on the porch and "meow-ed" and she talked right back to me! Matthew had to go rescue her, stuck under the house in the insulation and not able to get loose. My Hero!
This week though not a lot is on my plate as far as work and everything. It will be nice to get back to the RCIA class tomorrow night.
Gearing up for the vacation will be our next hurdle.. making lists, deciding what stays, what goes, etc. Fun. :-)

Fascinated with Eyelash Mites

Demodex
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Demodex is a genus of tiny parasitic mites that live in or near hair follicles of mammals. About 65 species of Demodex mites are known; they are among the smallest of arthropods. Two species living on humans have been identified: Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis, both frequently referred to as eyelash mites. Demodex canis lives on the domestic dog. Infestation with Demodex mites is common and usually does not cause any symptoms; occasionally some skin diseases can be caused by the mites.

Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis are the only Demodex mites that have been found on humans. D. folliculorum was first described in 1842 by Simon; D. brevis was identified as separate in 1963 by Akbulatova. D. folliculorum is found in hair follicles, while D. brevis lives in sebaceous glands connected to hair follicles. Both species are primarily found in the face, near the nose, the eyelashes and eyebrows, but also occur elsewhere on the body.
The adult mites are only between 0.3 mm and 0.4 mm long, with D. brevis slighly shorter than D. folliculorum.[1] They have a semi-transparent elongated body that consists of two fused segments. Eight short segmented legs are attached to the first body segment. The body is covered with scales for anchoring itself in the hair follicle, and the mite has pin-like mouth-parts for eating skin-cells, hormones and oils (sebum) which accumulate in the hair follicles. The mite's digestive system is so efficient and results in so little waste that there is no excretory orifice. The mites can leave the hair follicles and slowly walk around on the skin, at a speed of about 8–16 cm/hour, especially at night; they try to avoid light.
Female Demodex folliculorum are somewhat shorter and rounder than males. The total lifespan of a Demodex mite is several weeks. Both male and female Demodex mites have a genital opening, and fertilization is internal.Mating takes place in the follicle opening, and eggs are laid inside the hair follicles or sebaceous glands. The six-legged larvae hatch after 3-4 days, and it takes about seven days for the larvae to develop into adults. The dead mites decompose inside the hair follicles or sebaceous glands.

Older people are much more likely to carry the mites; estimates range as high as an 96-98% infestation rate in aged people. The lower rate of children may be due to the fact that children produce much less sebum. It is quite easy to look for one's own demodex mites, by carefully removing an eyelash or eyebrow hair and placing it under a microscope.
The mites are transferred between hosts through contact of hair, eyebrows and of the sebaceous glands on the nose. Different species of animals host different species of demodex; and demodex is not contagious between different species.
In the vast majority of cases, the mites go unobserved, without any adverse symptoms, but in certain cases (usually related to a suppressed immune system, caused by stress or illness) mite populations can dramatically increase, resulting in a condition known as demodicosis, characterised by itching, inflammation and other skin disorders. Blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids) can also be caused by Demodex mites.

All Saint's Day

Today is All Saint's Day.
WooHoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Father, You have given the saints in Heaven eternal happiness and they now live in the fullness of Your glory. Because of their holy love for You, they also care about me and my family, my friends, my church, and my neighbors. Thank You for the gift of their friendship and the witness of their holy lives. I ask our patron saints and every saint who has become especially dear to me to intercede for us. I ask them to help us journey safely on the narrow path that leads to Heaven. O Lord, give us their protection. Grant us their assistance in overcoming temptation and gaining the fullness of life with You. Amen.

Tupper-hua

After work yesterday I went by the goodwill I cleaned out over a week ago and Ta-Da! More Tupperware! I was so happy marching out with my trash bag full of goodies! Happy Halloween to me!!!
