The sleep study was horrible!
Well, at least they said I did not have to return Thursday night. Probably because she said the nasal sensor wasn't picking up much, but I am OK with being "sleep apnea" free.
We got there only to find out that they wanted Matthew to be available to stay all the next day, which he couldn't do with this new job beginning this week. So, he went home to the nice warm bed and I stayed.
I got hooked up to the 50 or so cords and got over the weird sensation of having things taped all over my face and scalp. They asked me to try and sleep on my back.
The thing about me is that no matter how hard I try, I haven't been able to sleep on my back for years now. I blame the back surgeries, but I just can not get comfortable and get these throbbing pains down my legs.
So, I tried. the mattress was unrelentingly hard, the pillows were small and unsupportive.. it was such a disaster! I slept all of 3.5 hours before calling the nurse in at 3:15 and telling her I had given up. Even trying to lay on my side was so uncomfortable I couldn't stay that way. So I sat up for about an hour. Then she let me take the electrodes off.
The 30 minute process of installing them quickly became a 30 second lesson in pain tolerance and exfoliation limits. They told me to wash my hair about 3 times in the (hot) shower to "melt" away the wax-y goo that was all on my face and scalp.
It was actually the hottest shower I think I have ever had, and I washed my hair 3 times.
I still had adhesive marks on my face I had to scratch off, but I managed to get myself ready and Matthew picked me up at 5:30 a.m. In the car I realized I still had spots of goo in my head. I put my hair back in a ponytail and tried not to freak out.
We ate breakfast with a co-worker of mine and life went back to normal.
Oh, and it is Michael's Birthday today. Heehee, 6 days older than me is still OLDER than me.
