So, making a major step towards adoption, I called the TN Dept. of Children's Services yesterday to order our info. packet. They only mail on Fridays, so we will receive it next week sometime. I am so excited!
I learned from the lady I was giving all of our info. to that in TN to adopt from foster care, you have to put in 6 months as a foster parent (not necessarily with the child you adopt). I am OK with that.
We will also be beginning a parenting class required by the state, getting a total of 30 hours in before we can proceed. That will be fun.
My Sister tells me that the FMLA law says if you are adopting you get the same amount of leave, called "bonding time" that you would if you were to take a maternity leave. I will have to see how my company handles that, too.
